Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about SchoolDraw — our monthly lottery for Anytown Primary School. Still have a question? Get in touch at hello@schooldraw.co.uk.

What is SchoolDraw?

SchoolDraw is a monthly subscription lottery run by Anytown Primary Parent Council to raise funds for Anytown Primary School in Anytown. It runs under a small-society lottery licence registered with Example Council. All money raised, after prizes and costs, goes straight to supporting the school.

How much does it cost?

£5 per entry, per month, paid automatically by Direct Debit. You can hold as many entries as you like — each one is a separate chance to win, and each entry gives you one membership number.

How do the numbers work?

When you join, you're given a random membership number — each entry gets its own unique number. If you hold more than one entry, you get one number for each entry. Your number is permanent — you keep the same number (or numbers) every single month for as long as you're a member. Each month the draw picks winning numbers from all the numbers whose payment has cleared.

How many winners are there and what are the prizes?

Three winners are drawn every month:

  • 1st prize: 25% of that month's entry income
  • 2nd prize: 15% of that month's entry income
  • 3rd prize: 10% of that month's entry income

That's a total prize pool of 50%. The other 50% goes to the school via the Parent Council — funding trips, equipment and activities for the children. The three winners are always three different people.

Is it anonymous?

Yes. On our public Winners page we only ever show the winning number, the place and the prize — for example “Number 42 — 1st place — £18.75”. We never publish names or email addresses. If your number is drawn, we email you privately to let you know and arrange your prize.

When does the draw happen and how do I know it’s fair?

Each month's entries are collected across the whole calendar month, and that month's draw is run on the 14th of the following month — which leaves plenty of time for every Direct Debit to clear. There is no live event — instead we use a published, re-checkable random seed. We commit and store a seed, then record exactly how each winning number was derived from it, so anyone can independently re-run the calculation and confirm the winners were chosen fairly. Every paid membership number is one equal chance.

I’ve just joined — am I in this month’s draw?

Only numbers whose payment has cleared before the draw are entered. Because each month's draw isn't held until the 14th of the following month, your first Direct Debit (which takes around 6 working days to clear) normally has plenty of time. Only if you join very close to the end of the month might your first entry roll to the next month's draw. After that, your payment is collected automatically each month and you're entered every month.

How are winners paid?

Winners are paid by bank transfer from the Parent Council account. Our payment system can only collect money in — it cannot send money out — so paying prizes is a manual step done by the treasurer. We'll contact you privately after the draw to arrange it, and only ask for your bank details at that point.

How do I cancel?

You can cancel at any time with no penalty — just get in touch with the Parent Council at hello@schooldraw.co.uk. Your Direct Debit will stop and you'll no longer be entered in future draws.
